FAQs - Courses
![]() | Am I able to take a course? |
If you are in average physical shape you will be fine.
![]() | Can girls learn sailing as well? |
Welcome to the 21st century!
In countries with sailing tradition many woman practice it. While you have the right spirit you'll be able to master all challenges as well as a male learner.
Just imagine:
There are female captains who navigate a "Panamax" ship through the Channel of Panama and they command a crew which is predominantly male. The "Panamax" have a beam of 120 feet whereas the sail boats of Velago have a beam of less than 5 feet :-)
![]() | I am not a good swimmer |
Although it sounds weird, but you don't have to a swimmer at all to take a sailing course. You'll be provided with life jackets designed for sailing. Their special security-design allows you to always float with your face above the waterline. Quite a lot of non-swimmers have already sailed out with us.
Furthermore, if you want we can help you to improve your swimming skills.
![]() | I am under 14 |
Interested teens under 14 are welcome to take a course! However sailing Lake Nicaragua on your own is not really recomendable if you are under 14. Responsable acting does not allow us to let you sail out alone, even after you will have completed the course and have successfully mastered the exam.
You will always be welcome to join us in one of the trips and excursions or sail with an adult sailor or one of Velago's captains.
